Our Background

AgaSha idea was initiated in 2008 when the founder of Agasha Group, Sharon Againe was doing internship in Mozambique with Technoserve; where bee honey smallholder farmers had difficulties to find buyers at the same time traders in the neighboring towns were looking for the reliable suppliers of quality honey. As an attempt to solve the problem, the intern would share contacts of traders with farmers during the field visits and inquire on their honey productivity. After which she would travel to the nearby trading centers and share with the traders, the list of farmers that had harvested bee honey. By including their respective phone numbers, the two parties managed to do business deals successfully at anytime.

After internship, Sharon returned to complete her four year Agricultural university course at EARTH University in Costa Rica where she did more research on development of business networking platforms for rural development. After graduation, Sharon went for a post-graduate internship in USA where she was exposed to different business networking marketing facilities. On returning to Uganda, she had difficulties in acquiring a formal job. Fortunately, she had some little savings acquired from the student business project she had done at university and internship stipends, she decided to live in her uncle’s basement where she initiated the AgaSha Business Network idea.

Sharon drew up her business plan and proposal which she widely distributed to potential funders and investors. She actively participated in programs and Television shows where she acquired skills on pitching her business idea to potential investors, partners and funders. It was through such platforms that she managed to acquire seed capital finances with ING Bank in the Netherlands through BidNetwork, France Telecom through Orange Social Capital Venture competition and aBi Trust.

In 2011, she launched her first website, agashaknows under Agasha Business Network to connect African small businesses to their markets through physical networking events; WhatsApp Groups; Two-way SMS; web portals; Twitter; Facebook Groups; and printed directories which gradually evolved into an established legally registered company in 2012, Agasha Group Limited with focus on Agribusiness sector.

We are mainly located in Kampala, Uganda with networks all over East Africa. Ever since COVID-19, AgaSha staff work from their respective homes and we attend to the clients from their offices or in the hourly hired shared open space business offices around town. Interestingly, we hardly meet people in person as most of our customers get all the information they need from our platforms to directly connect with their buyers or suppliers. It is only sales team that moves frequently to our advertisers’ offices to support them in preparing artworks, placing ads on AgaSha platform and other finance papers that may require signing.
